The Commute Year in Pictures

A year in the commute

The purpose of this page is to document in pictures my commuting by bicycle for 2005. My typical route is primarily on the Sammamish River trail, which runs up the Sammamish River Valley from Woodinville to Redmond. I also have a short distance on the street from the trail to my place of work. The whole distance is about 5 miles, though I can take routes that are about half a mile shorter to a mile and a half longer. Of course I can always add to this distance, but these are typical routes that I take on a daily basis. As this distance isn't too long, the pictures have a decent amount of overlap that I think allows one to see the route over the year. As I commute year round by bicycle, the changing of the seasons is nicely displayed this way. I do look for nice pictures that may not really be the commute itself, but seen on the commute.

In the summer, especially on the ride home the trail becomes crowded with people walking, rollerblading, pushing strollers, and bicycle riding. As I follow the rules of the trail I find that these crowded conditions reduce the pleasure of riding on them. So I typically take to the streets for the ride home. These alternate routes are from 5 miles to any length really, but typically I max out around 15 (gotta get home for dinner after all). These alternates routes do keep the commuting fresh and as summer evenings are so pleasent to ride in, become nice rides in and of themselves.

I've found this to be an enjoyable project and I have found the monthly pages of pictures to provide a nice view of this part of Washington state. Enjoy.
